Hazmat Surveys

A Hazardous Materials Survey consists of an inspection and report on buildings and structures for materials likely to be hazardous to the health of workers, building occupants, or the environment.

Hazardous materials can pose a range of health risks: Asbestos is proven to be harmful and can cause lung disease and forms of cancer including mesothelioma; PCBs and lead can affect the nervous system; and SMF can irritate the skin and upper respiratory tract.

Asbestos & Lead-Based Paint

Asbestos is a fibrous material that can be easily inhaled.  When inhaled, the tiny fibers can become trapped in the lungs and cause inflammation, scarring, and cancer.  Asbestos exposure can increase the risk of developing cancers of the lung, ovary, larynx, and mesothelioma.  Asbestos exposure can also cause a progressive lung disease called asbestosis.

Lead paint is a type of paint that contains lead. Lead was commonly added to paint prior to 1978 to make it dry faster, more durable, and more moisture resistant. Lead is a toxic metal that can cause serious health problems if it's ingested or inhaled.

We conduct testing, inspection, and remediation/removal of asbestos and lead paint.

Indoor Air Quality & Mold

Indoor air quality differs from outdoor air quality, and sometimes it can be far worse. Bad indoor air quality can cause serious threats to health, comfort, and productivity.

Whether you need proactive air quality verification or emergency response, CBJ Environmental offers a full range of indoor air quality services in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, and Southern New Hampshire.

AHERA Inspections

AHERA stands for Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act. AHERA was enacted to protect children in schools and immediately address any asbestos hazards.  The Asbestos School Hazard Abatement Reauthorization Act (ASHARA) of 1992 extended AHERA regulations to cover public and commercial buildings as well.

Asbestos becomes a hazard when it is impacted or delaminates and becomes airborne. If a material containing asbestos remains in good/intact condition, it can be maintained in place. This determination is the purpose of the initial AHERA inspection followed by mandatory AHERA re-inspections to be completed every three years.
